As with any career, there are some desirable skills for each position. Having most of these skills may make you a better candidate for becoming a hotel manager than someone who didn't have them. The hotel manager must have a number of skills and be trainable. Here are a few common skills for hotel managers:
- Great phone personality (for making reservations and handling calls)
- A good leader
- Ability to remain calm when dealing with angry clients
- Strong accounting skills
- Organizational skills
- Great listening skills
- Flexibility (the hotel industry gets busy and you could get flooded with fluctuating hours; you will also have to endure cross training which requires to be flexible)
As a sidenote, when it comes to hotel resume writing, do not forget to include all those skills in your resume.
