How to Write an Insurance Resume

The insurance field is specialized and technical and a winning resume must underscore this. Though the general standards expected in any professional resume apply, an insurance job resume needs to clearly show your competence and skills in the insurance field. Therefore, whether you are applying for a job or just working to improve your resume for the future, it is important that you keep this in mind.


Performing a thorough due diligence of the job opportunity you are hoping to pursue should always be done before preparing your finance insurance resume. This enables you to customize the resume to what the potential employer is looking for. This also applies when you are applying for a non-advertised job. You may seek for information from the internet or from people in the field or company you are applying to.


Once you have gathered enough information about the job you are pursuing, identify a resume format that will present your qualities in a way that will best impress the reviewer. Ensure that you conspicuously highlight the things that are required for the job. Avoid too much use of bold, italic or capital letters as this only makes your resume look unprofessional. Using section headings or bullets helps the reviewer to quickly navigate through your resume and easily find the information they are looking for.


Your personal information such as your name, contact telephone and e-mail address should be well laid out at the top of your resume. If you are currently working in the insurance industry, you can also indicate your current title below your name.


Personal details should then be followed by your career objectives and your qualifications summary. This is a prime place to market yourself giving the reviewer confidence that you understand the insurance field well and that your goals are in line with who they are looking for. You should professionally articulate your past experience, career aspirations, major achievements and show how you are a correct match for the candidate they are looking for. However, ensure that this is brief and to the point.


The next section should be that of your qualifications. Since insurance is a technical field, you need to show that you have the qualifications to handle the job. Indicate all special trainings and certifications that will give you an edge for the job.


Your professional experience should then follow. Starting with the most recent, list the experience you have that relates to this job opportunity. Indicate the dates worked, what the job entailed and achievements you made while in the position. Your achievements should be those that can be transferred to the job opportunity you are pursuing. You also need to indicate whether the position involved dealing with a particular line of insurance such as car or house.


Finally, the last section should indicate your education. If you have college education, indicate it at this section. You may also include any special skills such as computer proficiencies and any other extra skill you may consider helpful in adding your chances for the job.


At the very end of the resume, you may indicate that you can provide references upon request. It is advisable to keep your resume within two pages. Proof read the resume after completion to ensure that you have no errors.
