How to Write a Receptionist Resume
Every office needs a receptionist, and that is why it is perfect for those who are just getting into the corporate scene. Naturally you don't want it to be your last stop on the way up, but it is a stepping stone that you need to consider. The question that many people have is how they would go about writing their receptionist resume properly. That's definitely a good question, so we'll go into detail about creating a resume properly.
When you are writing your receptionist resume, you need to list any education that you happen to have. Many people are in a receptionist position simply because they have not finished college. If that is the case with you then don't worry! You can simply write down your high school education, and hope that someday you can list some college experience.
You will also need to list your previous job experience. Don't leave anything out unless you set a previous workplace on fire, and make sure that you record your job title correctly. List everything that you did at your previous job, even projects that you might have worked on.
If you had a previous office job, then you likely worked on many projects, and you might have specialized in many different areas. If this is the case, then put it in your resume because you might qualify for other positions at the office. If you do, then you might find that you bounce out of the receptionist position rather quickly.
Do you have any special skills that set you apart from other candidates? An understanding of certain software packages like Excel or Word will take you a long way in this business, especially when you consider that the majority of records are kept on hard drives rather than in file cabinets these days. If you have any certifications in the Microsoft Office then you need to list those in your resume. Any other certifications that you have should be listed there as well.
Writing a resume can be difficult, but as long as you do it right you should be able to land a decent job. The most pertinent advice we can give you is to be honest. You should never lie on a resume or a job application even if others tell you to embellish a little. Your employer will most likely check both your references and your previous places of employment. Though you might get in the door initially, you will probably be booted out if they find you were dishonest at any point.
So start writing your resume, be honest, and make sure you list everything that could help you attain that job. Soon enough you will be working, but even so, always keep your resume current. You never know when you might need it again.
