Pros of Federal Jobs

One employer that will always be hiring in your area is the local government, as long as you have a good Federal resume. For this reason it is almost always desirable to work in government, but there are a few other reasons as well. For instance, there are some amazing benefits and perks associated with working in government. Along with the benefits however, there are some disadvantages that you will need to be aware of. That being said, let's take a look at a few of the pros and cons related to obtaining a job in the federal system.

  • The first and most obvious benefit to a federal job are the health programs in place for federal employees. Aside from the military, a federal desk top provides some of the widest and most diverse health care plans on the market. There are life insurance plans, dental plans, and even long term care plans.
  • Retirement benefits are also quite prevalent in the federal job system, as you will find out. In many jobs you will find that the retirement plan is a bit shaky, and while that might not matter right now, it will certainly matter down the road when you are getting ready to put down the hammer and pick up the fishing rod.
  • Paid vacations are offered by almost every federal agency. They also offer paid education leave among other things. These are very attractive benefits for potential employees as you can imagine.
