Getting a Federal Job to be protected against recessions

There are several reasons you might want to get Federal employment. First, you might feel very patriotic and might want to work for Uncle Sam. Then there are the benefits that are great. Also, when it comes to money, the government offers some pretty good wages, which are clearly defined in the government schedule so that you do not have to worry about negotiating your salary and getting paid fairly. Last but not least there is the job stability, which is even more important during these times. While lots of private sector companies are downsizing, which results in higher unemployment and more competition to land a job, with a Federal job, you don't have to worry about this, especially as the government goes in the opposite direction, increasing hiring.

So if losing your job is one of your concerns, it might not be a bad idea to seek employment with Uncle Sam. However, if you never applied to government jobs, you should know that the application process is way different than in the private sector. First your original resume won't do the trick. You will need a Federal resume, which is a resume that is formatted according to government guidelines, as well as KSA statements, which are essays that must be joined to your resume. Finally don't forget that Federal jobs have deadlines, which means you must apply before vacancy announcements close as if you don't, you won't be considered for the job, even if you were the best candidate.
