One of the questions that we often get is how long should a resume be. One of the biggest misconceptions is that your resume should be limited to one page, which is what was the case 10 years ago. But things have changed as the employment environment became so competitive. The truth is that it depends on your field and career level.
- If you are fresh out of college, with not much experience, one page is more than enough as there is no need to stretch the info you want to provide and make your resume look phony.
- If you are at mid-career, it depends on how much important info you want to put in your resume. If it all fits on one page, keep it that way, but if all the essential and relevant data needs more than one page, then go ahead.
- If you are at the executive level or have 20 years of experience, feel free to make your resume longer than one page, if needed.
- If you are applying to a Federal job, just follow whatever guidelines they have when it comes to Federal resume or SES resume length.
