      <description>The Manager of Information Technology provides critical, high-level management to the Center for its technology offerings, including its technology classes, its web site (scw.org), and its internal information systems (about 20 workstations and associated equipment).

This position opened on 2001-08-04. Applications will be accepted until it is filled. 

Essential Functions

Administer the Center's technology classes, which currently include topics in: database design, general office applications, web design and web management. It is expected that the Manager of IS will teach many of these classes, such as the Microsoft Access curriculum, and oversee the administration of outsourced contractors for other classes. 

Manage a team of Americorps/VISTA volunteers (currently 3) that are placed at the Center to support youth/family-focused organizations by building database solutions. Complete information about this program, the "Teaming for Technology Program", can be found at teamtechdc.org. 

Manage the Center's web presence, including our main web site at scw.org. Work with staff to handle updated news, class listings, and improved communication facilities. The Center's site is presently served through Zope, an Open Source web application; the Manager of IT will extend and maintain this system. 

Manage the Center's internal information systems, including its database systems of class participants and registration, and its file server and email server. These are managed in Microsoft Access, and PostgreSQL, an Open Source database server. 

Manage the Center's workstations, networking equipment, and IT supplies.


Qualifications

Significant professional experience working with database solutions, including direct experience building and maintaining Microsoft Access databases. 

Experience teaching computer classes to adult learners. 

Experience building and maintaining database-driven web sites. 

Experience managing Ethernet networks and contemporary file servers and mail servers (either Windows NT or Linux). 

Excellent capacity to communicate well with both technology-savvy and non-technology-savvy audience.


Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate:

Experience using PostgreSQL, or other server-based database backend. 

Experience using Zope (web server solution). 

Experience administering Linux, Samba, and associated systems. 

Experience working in a senior technology capacity with nonprofit organizations.

Duties:

A successful candidate should also possess 7 plus years in a heterogeneous environment working with platforms such as UNIX, SUN, NT, Windows 2000, Oracle, SQL Server, and OpenView. He/She should also have 4 plus years supporting a distributed client/server implementation (i.e., SAP, Oracle, SQL Server). Formal Change Management, Production Control and SLQ hands-on experience, including developing, RFP's and policies and procedures, Disaster Recovery, Contingency planning, Computer Security, and Internet Services (Web hosting, connectivity issues, 24x7 support).
