The Driver Dispatcher is responsible for the effective management of assigned owner operators. The purpose of this position is to schedule and route drivers for pick-ups and deliveries of customer freight in the most cost-effective and safe manner while following company policies and procedures. The driver dispatcher reports to the operations manager. The Driver dispatcher is responsible for clear and concise communication with the owner operators and ensures that all the necessary documentation is received in timely manner.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO
Obtaining new freight orders and negotiate rates directly with customers
Filter client calls/emails and communicates issues with drivers and management team as appropriate.
Communicate available drivers and equipment to the transportation coordinator and load planners
Communicate back-haul needs to transportation coordinator and load planners
Efficiently route drivers to minimize empty miles, maximize equipment utilization and honor timely pick-up & delivery commitments to customers
Create a daily schedule for assigned local and over-the-road company drivers and owner operators
Identify and correct any daily schedule discrepancies in real-time
Maintain the necessary capacity to serve the customers' transportation needs in a safe and efficient manner
Ensure drivers adhere to all company, customer and government rules & regulations
Plan for the driver time off necessary to adhere to hours of service regulations
Identify inefficiencies and implement corrective solutions
Assist drivers with directions
Pro-actively monitor driver performance, hours of service and compliance with company policies
Enter Updates into Transportation Management Software
Verify shipping documents are in order and cleared for billing
Communicated and delays to transportation coordinator, internal and external customers
Create weekly performance reports for management
Upload all the required documentation to the Transpiration management software
Required Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent
Good verbal and written communication skills
Working knowledge of North American ground transportation
Excellent understanding of the geography in the assigned local services area
Ability to lead others
Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced work environment
Ability to deescalate conflicts
