Job Description: Job Description The Watermill Center seeks a Development Director to collaborate with the Managing Director, Artistic Director, Board of Trustees, and Development Department as they create and implement a plan to expand The Byrd Hoffman Water Mill Foundation base of support to enable the Foundation to achieve its financial, cultural and educational objectives. LOCATION - Primary | NYC Office & Studio, 115 West 29th Street, New York, NY 10001Secondary | The Watermill Center, 39 Watermill Towd Road, Water Mill, NY 11976 RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES include, but are not limited to:Fundraising Strategy DevelopmentWork with the Managing Director, Trustees and staff to build and execute a comprehensive and compelling strategy to expand philanthropic and external support, both domestically and internationally, and create a thriving, sustainable culture of philanthropy in support of The Watermill Center's programming and operations. Individual Giving With the Managing Director and development team, design and execute revenue strategies for BHWMF giving initiatives Develop and implement a planned giving program and strategy for the Foundation Institutional GivingWith the Director of Institutional Giving, identify and develop relationships and outreach strategies for new institutional and corporate funding sources Oversee the submission of compelling letters of inquiry, grant proposals, funder presentations, and other fundraising materials, including budgeting and financial reportingBoard DevelopmentParticipate in board development efforts, including the identification and research of board candidatesSpecial EventsWorking with Development department ensure success with the Annual Summer BenefitWorking with staff and Board to develop opportunities for cultivation and other fundraising eventsManagement and OperationsProvide leadership for the Development department staff, creating short-term and long-range plans to meet goal-oriented outcomesTrack quarterly cash flow against contributed income projections Prepare annual operating budget revenue and expense forecastsManage departmental expenditures to budget. Prepare financial reports for senior management QUALIFICATIONS -High level of experience and strong track record in all areas of development, from individual, institutional and corporate fundraising to special eventsEstablished networks with leading arts funders and New York philanthropic circles Strong management skills with proven ability to motivate and lead a team Aware of innovations and new trends in philanthropy, and willingness to implement best practicesStrategic, analytical and detail-oriented with excellent writing skills good sense of humor, high energy, and can do, will do roll up your sleeves spiritA demonstrated commitment to supporting artists and the artsThe ability to work evenings and weekends, and to travel when necessaryBachelors degree required, advance degree a plus Minimum 5 years development experience, preferably in arts and culture field Compensation with be commensurate with experience and includes a competitive benefits package.
