Maintenance Mechanic
Maintenance work involves the performance of skilled duties in connection with repairs to and maintenance of buildings, apartments and grounds requiring many skills found at the journeyman level, such as carpentry, plumbing repairs, electrical and painting work. An incumbent must possess knowledge of and skills in repairing such items as: plumbing and heating valves, toilets, sink drains, has the ability to solder pipes. Repairs or replaces electric switches, lighting fixtures, et al. Repairs stoves and refrigerators; windows, doors and other wood materials, minor mechanical equipment repairs such as snow blowers, power mowers etc., Checks conditions of boiler rooms and makes repairs to all oil pumps and valves. Must have knowledge of and skills in using a wide range of hand tools and equipment such as drills, hammers, plyers, electrical testers, power saws, etc.
Must be able to perform painting, in apartments, tile floor replacement, and waxing. Performs snow removal, from grounds. The incumbent is provided direction
and guidance but generally works independently and exercised a great deal of judgement in resolving problems in the act of making repairs and maintaining the grounds.
May be required to work under hazardous and adverse conditions such as sleet, snow, heat, dust and dirt. Appropriate physical health is a requisite as is the possession of a MA driver’s license. Instructions:
