Work at Home Agent: Take the Good with the Bad

Being a work at home agent is a great way to free up your time. You've surely heard all the stories about people who work from home. You'll be able to set your own hours, you'll spend more time with your family, you'll work when and where you want, and you'll make a ton of money. Right?

Not always. Just because you're a work at home agent doesn't mean that you can do whatever you want. As a responsible home based employee, it will be your job to ensure that your work is done on time, all the time. Also, you'll need to have a separate home office, and should set regular office hours to schedule your day around. Sure, you'll have the extra two hours you might have spent stuck in traffic to spend with your family, but you won't have all the time in the world.

Legitimately, a work at home agent will work just as many hours as an employee in an office, and sometimes more just because there is no time clock telling them to stop. Many people who work from home become workaholics, and burn themselves out at an alarming rate, trying to get everything done at once. Plus, not everyone who takes up the position as a work at home agent is making big bucks. You might only make what you were making at the office job, or less when you first start out.

It really all depends on what type of home based work you get into. However, even though it does provide more flexibility and a greater comfort level, working at home isn't always what it seems to be. You have to be twice as motivated and twice as organized as someone who works on site, because you're all alone. There's no bosses to tell you what to do all day, no time clock to punch, and no rules to follow except for the ones you set for yourself.
