Most often, these blogs are about different work at home positions, companies, and other information. Today, though, I want to share something a little different. We'll discuss different options to access home computer from work, and explore the related issues.
Now, if you've got the IT genius in you to set up networks and sharing, you can access home computer from work, or from anywhere else. However, most of us are limited in our techinical skills to make this more complicated than it's worth. For the rest of us, there are a couple different options.
Option 1: Save all your important work to a PDA. Sync it with your home computer daily, and then when you go into work, you'll have anything and everything you need. PDA's are great little tools for taking your work with you, and they're relatively inexpensive as well.
Option 2: External Flash Drive. By now, most people know what this is. It's a little stick, if you will, that has a USB plug on the end, and generally holds anywhere between 128MB and 2G of your files. These are great for transporting small parts of your files to wherever you need them.
To access home computer from work, you could also consider purchasing an external hard drive if you need more files than a flash drive or PDA can hold. With an external hard drive, you can even completely duplicate your home computer, and take it wherever you want to go.
These are a few simple options you have when trying to access home computer from work. This is a great tool if you work part-time from home, or even if you're just so dedicated to your job that you work at home during the nights once you leave work. One other tip: if it's just a small file or couple of files you need to access, you can e-mail them to yourself, and then download them at work. Just make sure you zip them, depending on their size, so that they don't get sent back. Most e-mail servers are sticklers for size, and if they're too big, they won't get through the server.
