Work at Home Billing

There are many companies that are turning to home based employees to do their billing and coding work. While this may seem ideal to the experienced medical billing professionals, it makes it harder for newcomers to get into the field of work at home billing.

If you're just deciding to check into a medical billing career, there are a few things you should expect. First, I've noticed many ads on sites like Monster, Career Builder, and Craig's List that require their new hires (inexperienced) to train on-site for at least a month or two, to monitor progress and ensure you're doing your job right. Also, it seems harder for newbies to get into work at home billing because everyone wants someone with "X years of experience"... usually 3 or 5. Yikes. Whatever happened to on the job training?

Truth be told, many companies just don't have the time or money to invest in training employees when they could hire someone more experienced to just do the job with little hand-holding.

Don't be discouraged about work at home billing jobs; I'm certainly not trying to squash anyone's dreams. I really just want to inform everyone so that you all know how difficult it might be for you to break into this field. By all means, if you really want it, go for it and don't give up until you've succeeded. But if you're just looking to make a quick buck with little effort, this isn't the field for you.

But this website said I could make a thousand dollars...

Sure they did. I'm sure that first you have to purchase their "proven training system" and then sit back and watch the jobs and the money roll in. (Can you feel the sarcasm?)

Get real, people. WORK should take effort. Everybody wants something for nothing these days, but it's rarely found. Working a job is part of being a grown-up, no matter how much it stinks. If you want to make a ton of money for very little or no work, try playing the lottery. Otherwise, expect to work to make a living, and good luck finding the work at home billing job that works for you.
