Though many people would very much like to avoid it laundry does not just go away. It is this very fact that many people would like to avoid laundry all together that provides an opening for a home based business opportunity for someone who does not mind doing laundry. Of course people can always elect to take there laundry to a dry cleaner or commercial laundry service. The price for this though often becomes prohibitive.
Should you choose to start a home based business dealing with laundry you can handle it in one of a couple of manners. You can make a schedule and agree to go to the person’s own home to do their laundry or you can have them drop it by your house. The easier of the two is certainly to have them drop it off at your place and then come back and pick it up.
One advantage to doing the laundry at the client’s house is that they are then the ones paying for the utilities. Still it is rather inconvenient to have to go to different house every day. That is if you are doing this type of work several days a week for different clients.
If your clients drop off their laundry at your place you then incur the cost of the utilities yourself. A major upside to this is the convenience it offers you. What’s more, you could have several people dropping off laundry the same day. In such a situation you might actually choose to turn around and take the large amount of laundry to a large commercial Laundromat where you can have ten or twelve or even more machines working at once. This might increase your expense somewhat, however, it does allow for you to handle considerably more laundry at one time as an offset to the cost of using the commercial machines. Instead of being limited to doing laundry for one or two clients, you might in fact be able to handle the work for five or six clients or even more on the same day. Thus allowing you to work at this home based business less days a week allowing more time for your own housework and devoting more time to your own family.
Another major consideration is are you simply going to wash and fold laundry or are you offering to include ironing as part of your services. This is a major consideration because ironing takes so much more time and needs to be factored into your rate schedule.
A major key to success in this type of home based business is scheduling. Obviously, though you must also do a proficient job of the laundry, using bleach and Shout or Spray & Wash type of products as necessary. Taking on ironing as part of the project will definitely be a drag on the quantity of work you can do and prices should be gauged accordingly.
