Work at Home as a Florist
An excellent opportunity to work at home for someone who loves flowers is to be involved as a florist. The opportunity for this to work at home is likely going to be more successful in rural locales. In an urban area working at home as a florist could still work given the right location.
The proper business licenses are obviously going to be required to run a florist shop while working at home. Like a good many other businesses it will also incur some significant upstart costs for things such as advertising, refrigeration equipment, stock, shelving, sufficient capital to see the business through start up and establishing itself as a profitable business, etc.
What do you need to be a florist?
- a love for and knowledge of flowers as well as a gift for working with people and understanding their needs.
- knowing what flowers are available at given times of the year and how to arrange them into attractive bouquets and other arrangements is of the utmost importance
- knowing what times of years are going to be the busiest i.e. Valentines, Mother’s Day, Easter, etc.
- what flowers and accessories are most appropriate for a given occasion: birthday, new baby, specific holidays, proms, weddings, wedding anniversaries, funerals, etc.
- enough capital to procure refrigeration units for storage and display of flowers
- a refrigerated delivery vehicle
If you have all of this knowledge and the availability to obtain the proper equipment, then the opportunity to work at home as a florist may be just your ticket. Don’t jump in and get over your head though before doing at least some basic study to determine the viability of such a business in your area. If there are already several florists nearby then you must have something special to offer to set you apart form the others if you want to be successful. Otherwise you might want to look at other opportunities.
