Wedding Planners can Make Money from Home

Wedding Planners can Make Money from Home

Wedding planners quite frequently are able to make money from home rather than working out of expensive office fronts. Any wedding planner is going to want to do advertising both in the yellow pages and on line these days. However, a good wedding planner will get a good share of their business by word of mouth. Most often you will be meeting with prospective clients at their homes or where the wedding is to take place, therefore the fact you choose to make money from the confines of home is hardly ever a factor that will be taken into consideration.  If you think you have what it takes to be a good wedding planner then maybe you do. A good wedding planner is going to have a host of important skills and a solid knowledge base in the requirements for pulling off a fabulous wedding.

The wedding planner needs to:

  • Have excellent people skills. If you can’t work with the public you don’t belong in this business.
  • Be flexible with regard to ideas. While you may have great ideas for a particular wedding, they may not quite mesh with what the bride or groom has in mind. Be willing to give an inch if you want to make money from home.
  • Have excellent taste in color schemes. The right colors can make for a beautiful wedding, the wrongs ones for a dull and drab one.
  • Know what type of flowers will work well with a given color scheme as well as what their availability is at a given time of year. While it is possible to ship flowers great distances, they still have to be in season somewhere before you can use them.
  • Have the proper contacts with florists, caterers, musicians, printers for invitations etc. If these relationships don’t yet exist you need to cultivate them. It takes a complete package to make a wedding dream come true.
  • Be familiar with the needs and traditions of different local religions and ethnic groups. What might be considered perfect for one group may be a slap in the face to another one. That last thing you want to do is to learn at the last minute that something you planned is a taboo by cultural background or that something you overlooked is an absolute requirement.

Before starting a wedding planning business with the aim being to make money from home or elsewhere, if you don’t have those people skills listed then don’t waste your time, or that of potential clients. If you are not a people person, this business is not for you.

Probably the best advice for anyone looking at becoming a wedding planner is to talk with and observe an established wedding planner at work.  Thank them for their time in working with you and be gracious to all involved. If you are not aware of it already, you’ll soon find out that being a wedding planner involves a great number of details.
