Make Money from Home Doing Freelance Writing and Translation

Make Money from Home Doing Freelance Writing and Translation

There are several ways to make money from home. Among the best ways to make money from home is to do freelance writing and or document translation. There are several websites available where you can find on line work. Between these different websites there may be hundreds or thousands of projects posted at any given time. These sites are very competitive and in most cases offer on line payment in one form or another.

These sites will require you to fill out basic information about yourself and your qualifications. Then based on your qualifications you will be offered a chance to bid on projects posted by different companies enlisting the help of people who want to make money from home. These postings will vary greatly. Remember that the websites are in business to make a profit. As such they collect fees for handling various projects. Once you have become established with them, expect to pay fees and factor those fess into your cost of doing business with them. In many cases they will also handle forms 1099 for tax purposes.

  • The key to make money from home with these sites is being honest and up front about your qualifications. If you only speak English, then list the types of things you are competent to work at when it comes to writing. If editing is your thing, say so. If you do well at writing, include areas of expertise. One person may be able to write on a wide variety of subjects for the public. Others might only feel comfortable writing about specific topics. The person who is an excellent writer when it comes to tourism might not be competent to write about medical or scientific subjects. You should neither sell yourself short nor exaggerate when listing your abilities. The more honest you are the better your chance is to make money from home by finding work appropriate to your abilities.

  • If you are fluent in more than one language and are capable of doing professional translation, then put that down. The more languages you are fluent in the greater the opportunity of obtaining work. Be honest with yourself about your capabilities. If you are fluent in Castillian Spanish from Spain, that does not necessarily mean you know the proper terms used in other Spanish speaking countries. So look for work in areas that you are sure you can handle.

One recent bid was looking for a website’s contents to be translated into: Spanish, German, French, Italian, Russian, Slovene, and Serbo-Croation. Admittedly not too many people are going to be able to offer translation on all of those languages. However, you may well be allowed to bid on a portion of the project. Remember though, there may be someone else out there looking to make money from home

who has several translators working for them that might bid the entire project.

Also something to keep in mind when placing a bid with one of these companies is that these bids are often offered world wide. That means you may be bidding against workers from lower wage earning countries such as India. So look and see to whom the bidding is open. Depending on the project, a key element in your bid may be the fact that you are fluent in American English.
