Make Ceramics and Pottery at Home
If you are a person who is into making ceramics and pottery, why not make money doing it while working at home. Maybe you are already doing this as a hobby. If you already have the know how and the potter’s wheel and kiln or other materials you need to work with, why not take the next step and start working at home on pieces you can sell to the public. Maybe you have the know how and just need to invest in a few pieces of equipment to make this possible for you. Why not work at something you enjoy doing and make a profit at the same time. All too often people connect the word work with meaning drudgery when it can in fact be a true joy if you are working at what you like.
Every artist has their own unique style. Display yours and let other people enjoy it. Any city of any size has street fairs or swap meets of one type or another. These are perfect places to show what you’ve made while working at home. Thousands of people do this all the time. If you don’t think so, just try going to the next street fair or swap meet where you live. Invariably you will find people selling their own special wares. So why shouldn’t you sell yours? You have nothing to lose by trying and everything to gain.

Be a Clothes Designer
You don’t have to live in New York City, Paris or Rome in order to design clothes. Yes many of the top designers do. But, you can just as easily work form home on your clothes designs. One of the relatively new comers to the world of high fashion in New York, as reported in the Spanish language magazine CMD, started off working at home in Colombia before moving to the United States. But, that is really beside the point. You can be a clothes designer without having to be famous in the world of high fashion.
Take a look around. There are specialty boutiques in most any city. Many of these are locally owned and are more than happy to display clothes from a local designer. If you think, or better yet know, you have the knack for clothes design you might try putting together a collection of your work and make an appointment to visit with the owner of one or more of these specialty shops. The owner may not be willing to outright buy your line; however, they might be willing to take your product on consignment. If enough product moves on consignment, you can bet at some point they will be interested in buying from you outright. If your product is good enough they might even ask for exclusive rights.
The key to working from home on clothes design is to know your limits and not get in over your head. Come up with some unique products while keeping inventory of fabrics and such at a minimum. Don’t over burden yourself with thousands of dollars invested in fabrics, lace, elastic and other sundry items when you don’t need them. If you know you are going to stick with this work from home project for a considerable length of time you might want to invest in some product labels identifying your brand and also to comply with standards for care instructions.
You don’t necessarily have to even have a vendor such as a boutique selling your products. You can always take the finished products to street fairs and swap meets and sell them there. If they are good and reasonably priced for comparable merchandise, they will sell. Don’t get discouraged and give up on your work from home business just because you don’t sell everything the first time out to a street fair or swap meet. Sometimes people will come back the next time to buy something hoping that the designer with that really unique article of clothing will be there again selling their wares. That also gives you a chance for word of mouth traffic to come your way. Consistency, consistency, consistency. Those are the key words here. Don’t be just hit and miss. Be at these affairs on a consistent basis.
