Webcams can facilitate telecommuting while working from home

Working on line from home or telecommuting is made easier with a webcam. One of the draw backs many people and companies initially found to people working on line from home was the lack of face to face contact. You can put down thousands of words on paper or in an online document; however, the phrase that a picture is worth a thousand words is still as true today as the day it was coined. Being able to see a person to whom you are talking can often change your understanding completely. No company is going to want to lose or offend a client over a misunderstanding that a face to face encounter could easily overcome.

You can be the best writer in the world. Use all of the proper grammar and punctuation. Use italics or bold print to add emphasis, but, does that guarantee that a reader, especially one who does not know how to read well using punctuation and clues as to emphasis, will understand something the way you intended? No, it does not. Thus we encounter a major problem with regards to working on line from home. One time when this is not a problem is when the information being sent online is very objective and following a set format such as in real estate deals.

I consider myself to be pretty good with the written word. I even authored a novel some years back. Still, writing a simple e-mail while employing all the writing tricks in the book, does not guarantee that what you have written will be interpreted by the recipient as you would have wished. Putting the wrong word in bold print when working online from home might give another the impression you are upset when in fact you simply thought they should know this was an important issue.

So, if you are getting ready to pitch the possibility of working on line from home to your boss, being able to assure him/her that many of the downside issues involved in telecommuting can be overcome by the use of a webcam may make all the difference in the world.
