If you haven't paid attention to your traffic lately, I would suggest looking at your traffic stats to see if anything changed. From what I've seen, some sites increased their rankings this time, at least those who made some improvements since the last big Panda/Penguin updates last year.

Bing and Yahoo joining forces

So it's finally official: Bing will provide organic search engine results for Yahoo while Yahoo will provide PPC ads for MSN's Bing. This is good news for three reasons: First ranking organically with Bing is easier than with Yahoo. Second, since Oveture has high conversion rates, this will allow you to increase your sales since it will also cover MSN's traffic. Finally, this will mean you won't get as much dependant from Google anymore as with Bing and Yahoo joining forces, you will get a new bigger source of easier traffic, which will be almost as important as Google's.

So I would suggest you start optimizing your site for Bing right away so that you take advanatge of both Bing and Yahoo's free traffic ...

Bidding on trademark terms

Those of you using Adwords to promote their site might be interested to learn that you will be able to bid on trademark terms, starting June 15th. This means that if you have a page about resume services, you can now bid on the names of popular resume writing companies to send traffic to your site. You can also bid on your competitors' names, which should allow to reach new clients. To find out more about these new changes, check out this Adwords blog post.

New Google keyword tool

Google offers a new keyword tool at http://www.google.com/sktool/

This tool is pretty similar to the Adwords keyword tool, except that it includes bids, categories as well as links to Google trends and SERPS. From testing it and comparing the two tools, I would be careful when using the new sktool. I suspect this might be some beta version as the number of searches can vary widely from one tool to the other. In addition this tool suggests high bids for some keywords that do not have any advertiser.

Since it can also provide list of keywords based on your site, this is however useful to find keywords that you might have missed and which can be added right away to your account.

While I'm pretty sure that the data will become more accurate over time, to play it safe, I would use it as a complementary keyword tool for the time being.

Google keyword traffic data

Google just updated its keyword tool, which you can access in your Adwords account or externally. Remember when you were looking at keyword traffic stats and had to approximate how much traffic those traffic bars were worth? Not anymore! Now Google instead gives you the number of queries, which not only allows you to finally be able to precisely rank keywords against each other but also plan better your PPC spending and organic ranking priorities. Last but not least, shall I remind you this is a free tool, which should allow those who were paying for these pricey keyword tools to save quite a few bucks.

New Google Analytics

For those of you having an Adwords account, I wanted to let you know that Google released his new -- beta -- version of Analytics a couple of weeks ago and that its new features are impressive, giving you pretty much for free a traffic analysis sofware as powerful as any expensive tool available on the market.

New features include in-depth reports of daily traffic, an easy-friendly interface, keyword positionning but my favorite update is, by far, an improved Traffic Source function, which lets you analyze referring sites' traffic by keyword, landing page, etc..

Whether you already have a traffic analysis solution or not, I would recommend using the new Analytics, especially since it's free.

AdWords introduces Ad Scheduling
Webmasters who are promoting affiliate programs with AdWords, will now be able to set up schedules for their campaigns, both on a hourly and daily basis. To activate this new feature, click “edit campaign settings” and then turn on “Ad scheduling”.

You will be able to set up to two time periods/day for which you can even adjust the pricing of you ads in % (in advanced mode). Another useful feature is that edits can be made on a daily basis or as bulk for the entire week.

Since Google’s latest update, there seems to have been a lot of turmoil in the online world. As a result, some webmasters have started systematically taking down any outbound link, including affiliate links.

I just wanted to clarify that 1) this update was targeting excessive un-related linking and link farms, not affiliate links. 2) In addition, sites that got affected were penalized for inbound links, rather than for outbound links.

AdWords’ campaign settings Update
You have now the option not only to choose on which specific network — Google search, Search network or content network — you want your ads to show but also to adjust your bids separately for the content network.

Google launches Analytics
Google has just launched Analytics, a new tool that will allow you to analyze your traffic, in terms of origin, behavior, profitability, etc. If you have an AdWords account, you can activate Analytics by clicking the new “Analytics” tab and pasting the provided tracking code onto your pages. Best of all it’s free and available to all, whether you’re an AdWords advertiser or not.

Google Jagger Update

This latest Google update has been in process for a while and has been targeting spam sites, mostly websites abusing unrelated link exchanges and/or having pages solely built to make money with affiliate programs and AdSense.

I’ve been repeating it here many times, but if you are serious about earning an income online, you will need to work on building a genuine site with valid content — easy schemes and fake content sites might do the trick for a few weeks but they will unavoidably get caught by one of Goggle’s updates and be dumped from search results.

In addition, if you don’t want your online business to depend on Google’s moods, it is recommended to strengthen your presence in other search engines and have recourse to online/offline advertising.

AdWords: New Keyword System has been launched
AdWords has launched their new keyword system. Major changes are on the way in terms of keyword management. A minimum bid based on a quality score will be assigned to every keyword and statuses such as “in trial” & “on hold” will disappear, leaving only 2 statuses, “active” or “inactive”.

Google will issue an announcement, just after these changes got implemented. Make sure to log onto your AdWords account for more details.

Google PR update
Following the much talked-about Google dance that happened in May, here comes another tweak from the good folks at Google, a PR update.
